A lot of the newer homes in Marion County are built for one thing: the view. Up on the plateau around Jasper Highlands and Guild, that usually means a wall of glass facing out over the valley. Down on Nickajack Lake and the river, it means big windows and sliders facing the water. Those are the homes we get the most calls about, and the problems are pretty consistent:
- Late-day sun. West-facing glass takes the sun head-on from mid-afternoon until it drops behind the ridge. Great rooms and primary bedrooms on that side can run noticeably warmer than the rest of the house, and the AC never quite catches up.
- Glare. Open sky over the valley, plus light coming off the water if you’re on the lake, makes it hard to watch TV or work at a screen near the windows. Film takes the edge off without blinds blocking the view you paid for.
- Fading. New hardwood, rugs, cabinets and furniture fade fastest in the rooms with the most glass. Window film blocks up to 99% of UV, which slows that down a lot.
- Privacy where you need it. Bathrooms, soaking tubs and bedrooms often face a neighbor, a road or the next lot over. Frosted or decorative film can cover just the lower part of a window and leave the top clear for light and trees.

A: Yes. Reducing glare is one of the main things window film does. You can choose a film that tames the glare while keeping a clear view of the water, and we’ll bring samples so you can see the difference at your own windows.
A: It can be. Replacing every window in an old house is a big expense, while film goes right onto the glass you already have. It won’t fix a leaky frame, but it does reduce the chill you feel sitting near a window in winter and the heat pouring in on a summer afternoon. We’ll walk through the house with you and tell you honestly where film will help most.
A: Not unless you want it to. Some of the ceramic films we carry are close to clear and still block a lot of heat and UV. Others are a bit darker for more glare control. We bring samples of both XPEL and LLumar films so you can look through them at your own view before choosing.
